The death of a spouse, child, family member or friend is devastating. Christians are able to claim an eternal perspective and can rejoice that the person they lost is now in the presence of God. Even so, as humans, we must grieve a loss so deep and significant. The grieving process is often lengthy and intense and even mature Christians with a solid faith need ongoing comfort and encouragement during this grieving period. GriefShare is part seminar, part support group. The seminar portion, presented through the GriefShare videos, provides important teaching on topics related to death and grief. The support group segment allows participants to talk through issues and feelings related to their own grief experiences. GriefShare meets Saturday mornings at 9:00 in Room 12 of the preschool building. For more information or if you have questions, call Joyce Roberts (760) 432-8458. For people who are more interested in learning about the grieving process, we have placed a set of GriefShare videos in the library. The topics are: 1. When Your Dreams Fall Apart. This session helps people understand they are not alone in what they are experiencing. 2. The Seasons of Grief. Explores the healthy grieving process and understands that grief cannot be rushed. Milestones in the journey are covered. 3. Emotions of Grief (1). Emotions can make one feel a loss of control and add a sense of helplessness. 4. Emotions of Grief (2). Identifying emotional ruts to avoid, and how forgiveness is a key step in the recovery process. 5. When Your Spouse Dies. The sense of "who we are" is no longer secure and untouched, and we can become overwhelmed. Helps to finding wholeness and self-sufficiency. 6. Your Family and Grief. For those dealing with loss of a child. Also examines how children process grief and suggests steps to help them through it. 7. Where Is God? Grief brings theological questions. God may not answer why but He is always there. 8. Your Greatest Resource. Learning to draw upon Christ as our center. 9. Stuck in Grief or Moving On? Grief recovery cannot be speeded up, but sometimes we slow it down. Learn ways to avoid barriers and pitfalls on the journey to recovery. 10. Growing Through Grief. Trials are often our greatest opportunities for change. Grief can make us better people if we open our hearts to its lessons. 11. Grief Recovery Tool Kit. Some very practical things that can be done to help in recovery. 12. God’s Spiritual Hospital. How church members can serve as extended family and assist in the healing process. 13. Longing for Heaven. Seeing the joy of eternal life in heaven with our Lord. Community Lutheran Church 760-739-1650 LINKS: |
